2ND FRIDAY FEATURED ARTIST: THE MULTI-TALENTED, AMY SANDERS
Most people now know me as a ceramic artist. However, in addition to my ceramics, I wanted to show a different side of my creative process and to bring in my love for storytelling with this body of work. By no means am I a great storyteller, but I believe in the narrative power of imagery and colors. Traveling, along with creating, is one of my deepest passions. During my travels over the years, I have amassed a large archive of photos, and I've never really shared most of them. I finally feel like it's time to start changing that.
Last summer, I spent several weeks in Italy, and instantly fell in love with the vibrancy of that land. The following collection of images come from that time abroad (some of you may recognize a few of them). Not long after returning from Italy, I realized my vision had been deteriorating at a noticeably faster rate than ever before. Then, a couple of months ago, my eye doctor told me that by the middle of summer, I would no longer be able to drive due to the gradual loss of my peripheral vision. This has been the first major step towards blindness and a loss of independence that made me think, “It’s actually happening, isn’t it?”
I've always been confident about knowing what I need, and I'm thankful I was given a passion for art and travel. The possibility of being unable to travel independently and see our visually stunning world does sadden me, but more importantly, urges me to grasp onto the opportunities of the present. It’s both terrifying and wonderful, to feel such a sense of urgency.
Tomorrow, I will be returning overseas for a brief artist residency to expand my education in ceramics and public art, and I will stay afterwards in Europe for a bit to see more of this world and its lovely people while I still can. I’m inviting you to be a part of this journey. Any proceeds from the art sales will help fund the residency costs. And if you don’t feel like getting something for yourself, that's ok! Do something else for yourself--go do that thing you love before life slips away.
COME VISIT US THIS FRIDAY FROM 6-10PM TO SEE AMY'S ART AND OTHER FUN STUFF (I.E. GIVEAWAYS, NEW PRODUCTS, DRINKS, AND MORE)!!!
