BLOOD ORANGE GIN & SODA

This was quite possibly one of our favorite cocktails in the history of our 2nd Friday cocktails!

BLOOD ORANGE GIN & SODA

single serving//

1 oz gin

1.5 oz blood orange italian soda (we found this at Sprouts but Target has a version as well)

1.5 oz club soda

.75 oz or thyme simple syrup

sprig of thyme and/or a blood orange peel

To mix: Fill a glass with ice, add gin, sodas, and thyme simple syrup.  Stir gently. Garnish with sprig of thyme and/or orange peel.

*Disclaimer// because we make 300 of these drinks on a 2nd Friday we make them sort of small so you could totally beef the servings up if you want to!

Simple syrups always seem like they are going to be hard to make or really time consuming but let me let you in on a little secret.  They aren't.  I made a gallon of this and it was easy. But like I said above we make 300 of these so you could probably do with making a half cup of it and have more than enough so it will be even easier!

THYME SIMPLE SYRUP

.5 cup of sugar

.5 cup of water

4-6 sprigs of thyme

To make: In a saucepan over medium heat, bring sugar and water to a boil. Remove from heat and add thyme sprigs. Allow to cool for 30 minutes. Discard thyme before using.  If you do not want any thyme leaves in the syrup then use a fine mesh strainer to remove them.

This should keep in the refrigerator for about 1 month. So add it to all your drinks or even to club soda for a tasty drink in the middle of the day.  Oooh or add it to a little champagne for brunch!

If you don't feel like making your own simple syrup we sell some in the shop from Pink House Alchemy.  They don't have a thyme [which is why we made our own] but I think this would be good with their cardamom or vanilla simple syrups!!

We can't tell you how to make this amazing cocktail without also telling you who made it possible in the first place!  Cellar Wine & Spirits has been so kind to sponsor our 2nd Friday cocktails.  So when you go buy your gin to make this drink- think of them.  They are amazing [!!!] with amazing staff who will help you pick out amazing spirits to make your cocktails perfect!
